George Street
New Brunswick, 2023
The client purchased a house by the beach in New Brunswick and enlisted our services to reimagine each space, transforming it into a versatile environment for family, friends, and potential renters. On the ground floor, the client sought a space to host gatherings, with a furniture plan that prioritized ample seating, a flexible dining area to accommodate additional guests, and finishes that conveyed a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. What was once a large, unprogrammed open area in a walk-out basement was reimagined as an 'entertainment hub' featuring a board games table, bar, pool table, and gym. Existing rooms and unfinished areas were reconfigured and transformed into guest rooms, a home office, and nautical-themed bathrooms.
We embraced a coastal aesthetic for the basement 'entertainment hub,' with elements such as shiplap wall cladding, Baltic birch plywood on the kitchenette cabinets, seashell-inspired wall sconces, and a teal blue mini fridge.
Shelf edges are deliberately left exposed to celebrate the rustic yet clean aesthetic of plywood against the shiplap backdrop.
A custom metal railing was designed with piquettes resembling the zig-zag pattern of sail lines on ships.
Coral colored chairs, a weaved stool and a sofa with a wood exoskeleton complement the basements coastal aesthetic.
A combination of glazed deep green ceramic wall tile and sandy floor porcelain tile bring regional natural colors and textures into the home.
The ground floor evokes a cozy, chalet-inspired ambiance, achieved through a thoughtful combination of a multi-tone rug, blue chairs, a fluted credenza, walnut furniture, and a limestone-clad fireplace.
A dark sideboard with tambour doors offers both functional storage and a refined surface for ambient lighting and artwork.
Textures are thoughtfully layered, adding a graphic quality that enhances the spatial experience.
Neutral light tones and rich dark hues create a warm, inviting atmosphere that is both luxurious and relaxing.
Natural wood tones and light finishes were chosen for the dining room furniture, while the rattan backrests on the chairs introduce layered texture, maintaining a light and airy feel. This detail offers a striking contrast to the solid wood table.
Lighting and hardware offer an opportunity to enrich the aesthetic through simple forms.
A new desk nook in the primary bedroom uncovers a view to the outdoors that was once blocked by a small powder room.
Reading lights, furniture, and bedding are seamlessly unified through a palette of okra and green hues.
