Heathbridge
Bennington Heights (under construction)
The client sought to expand her home by adding a dedicated studio space to support her passion for fabric dyeing. The primary request was to integrate the new studio seamlessly with the existing kitchen while preserving the flow of natural light. A stained glass door and screen connects the original house with the studio and introduces a vibrant array of colors into the main living area, reflecting the joy her craft brings. The design incorporates colorful tiles and hanging pendants that complement the hues of the stained glass, adding texture and bold visual interest to the space. To enhance functionality, a custom stainless steel countertop and sink was installed at ground level, designed specifically to accommodate the rinsing of fabrics.
The exterior of the studio addition was designed as a natural extension of the existing home, while subtly reinterpreting the original architect’s vision. Undulating steel siding was introduced, shifting in and out to add depth to the façade. The interior drop in level from the kitchen into the studio created an opportunity to explore the elevation of the new windows and sliding doors at the rear, further enhancing the connection between the interior and exterior.
A stained glass steel door dyes the existing space of the kitchen with a new light filled with color.
Green cabinets, paint-dipped light pendants, and hand-made zellige wall tiles make of the space a beacon of inspiration.
